UPDATE: October 25, 2011

FINALLY OPEN AGAIN!

On October 28, 2011 the US Park Service the ENTIRE Marin Headlands loop to bicycles.

UPDATE: September 30th, 2011

NOT OPEN YET! One more month before the descent down Hawk Hill is open to bicycles again.

On September 15, 2011 the US Park Service reopened Lower and Upper Conzelman Road to vehicles and pedestrians.

Bicycles are allowed up Lower Conzelman Road to Hawk Hill. But bicycles are still prohibited beyond Hawk Hill due to the repaving of Field Road. The paving of Field Road is expected to be completed between mid- to late- October 2011.

Another option for descending from Hawk Hill is to turn at the roundabout and head down McCullough Road to Bunker Road and back through the tunnel. For more information, see our Marin Headlands route here.

April 11, 2011

On April 11, 2011 the next phase of construction of the Marin Headlands was begun. This construction includes resurfacing of Lower Conzelman Road from the parking lot at the Golden Gate Bridge to the round about at McCullough Road. Upper Conzelman Road from Hawk Hill to Bunker Road is also closed. The specific information is outlined below.

If all goes well, the section of Lower Conzelman Road from the Northwest Parking Lot to the first lookout point, Battery Spencer, will reopen at the beginning of August.

The main section of the Marin Headlands Trail will be closed through October 2011. Until then, your best opportunity experience the Marin Headlands is to either go through the Bunker Tunnel, climb McCullough Road and then climb up Conzelman Road from the round about to Hawk Hill and turn around, or check out our Marin Headlands video below.
